19 Ways to Practice Self-Love

"To fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness." -Robert Morely

Self-love is the ability to know what you deserve in all aspects of your life. Developing self-

love not only creates confidence, it also gives you insight into your true authentic self. People with healthy levels of self-love have better relationships, are more resilient, and tend to have lower stress levels. Oftentimes we are afraid to develop our self love in fear of appearing self-absorbed or narcissistic, but that just isn’t the case. When we show up for and take care of ourselves, we are more available to show up for others.

Here are some ways to practice and develop self-love.

  1. Exercise to take care of your body, not punish it. Find a form of exercise that you truly enjoy and celebrate what your body can do! Your body will thank you for it!

  2. Treat yourself to a massage or manicure. Short on funds? Do it yourself! It’ll still feel like a treat.

  3. Try yoga or a meditation class. Taking time to clear your mind of all distractions and just be with yourself is the highest form of self-love.

  4. Fill your body with nutritious food and drink that nourishes it and makes it thrive.

  5. Write a gratitude list about yourself. What traits do you like about yourself? What are you thankful for in this beautiful life of yours?

  6. Surround yourself with positive people who inspire you and lift you up.

  7. Let go of toxic people. You will be happier without their influence on your mood and life.

  8. Set boundaries for yourself and feel good about sticking to them.

  9. “No” is a complete sentence. Learn to use it.

  10. Take an hour to revisit an old hobby you used to love. Your creativity is a unique part of you!

  11. Wear clothes that make you feel confident. If you need a little extra boost, spruce up your wardrobe with a few new pieces that make you feel fabulous.

  12. Take yourself out for lunch. Instead of playing on your phone, be mindful as you eat and think about all you bring to the table as a person.

  13. Think about your personal values often, and live in a way that stays true to yourself.

  14. See the opportunity, not the obligation, in each situation.

  15. Set aside your need of approval from others. You can’t please everybody all the time. The only person you need approval from is yourself.

  16. Allow yourself to make some mistakes. You’re only human, after all! Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and grow.

  17. Show the same compassion and support for yourself that you would give to a friend.

  18. Be mindful about what you are telling yourself. Thoughts are things, and things can hurt you if you aren’t careful. Practice positive thinking, especially when it seems hard to do so.

  19. Know that YOU ARE SO WORTH IT!
