Driven Product Review - AMINOS

From Driven Nutrition's Jason Rule:

BCAA’s or Branched Chain Amino Acids are three all star Essential Amino Acids (EAA) that get their name from their fork or branch like structure. Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine are becoming well known for intra or pre-workout supplementation. We want to give you our top reasons why they should be on your must have list.

BCAA’s start being special the moment they hit the body. They are spared by the liver and sent directly to the muscle tissue where they can be used as fuel during workouts. The longer and more intense your workout the more BCAA’s will be called on and used as fuel. While there is no stimulant effect, users often feel tough workouts become more manageable as they find they can push through, keeping the same intensity from beginning to end.

BCAA’s, particularly Leucine play a key role in turning on mTOR, or what’s commonly know as muscle protein synthesis, the bodies process of taking free form amino acids and constructing new muscle. While several amino acids are needed to build new muscle its BCAA’s role to flip on the switch to start the process. Leucine gets additional applause for its ability to boost the anabolic activity of hormones like insulin and growth hormone (GH), which further promote muscle building.

BCAA’s aren’t sold as fat loss supplements, but maybe that should be reconsidered. While they can’t help you sitting still, BCAA’s effect on protein synthesis during workouts means more fat gets incinerated! It takes calories to build new muscle and ingesting BCAA’s before and during workouts enhances the bodies’ ability to turn fat and carbohydrate (glycogen) into energy. Additionally Leucine has been shown to stifle hunger. Eat less + Burn more = Fat Loss.

Eating healthy and training to have lean muscle tissue near the surface of the skin for all to behold can also leave you in a delicate battle between protein synthesis and catabolism (protein breakdown). The rate at which you gain or keep muscle is going to be determined by how much you can help the former prevail. Unfortunately we don’t build muscles in the gym, we break them down. Most of you understand that process but did you know you also increase your output of the dreaded stress hormone cortisol, which can signal a stop to muscle building and decrease testosterone levels. BCAA’s, again mostly our star Leucine, not only help build muscle but maybe more important, they prevent the breakdown of your hard earned mass.

BCAA’s aren’t the sexiest supplement out there. They don’t hype you up with stimulants before a workout, they don’t promise to purge your body of fat and they don’t act as that post workout protein snack. What they do is small and relatively unseen in one workout. However taken daily, it’s those small changes over a long period of time that make a BIG difference!

Driven Nutrition’s Amino offers 4 grams of BCAA’s in each scoop and comes in 50 serving containers. For less than one dollar a workout you can start seeing what those BCAA’s could be doing for you!

When looking at BCAA supplements remember not all are created equal. Look for a product with at least 2 grams of Leucine and one that has Leucine making up at least 40 percent of the total content. Commonly a ratio of 2:1:1 (Leucine:Isoleucine:Valine) is found.
